“It's simply a different level of service”
A client review, 2026
I take complicated things off people's hands and hand them back finished. Motorhome ownership in Europe, a private community for travellers, and bespoke private AI.

Everything here has my name on it
I am John Mottram, a British citizen & UAE resident (Emirates ID) and Citadela is my company. Founded in Dubai in 2025, in the Meydan Free Zone, it runs France Motorhome Sales, the private community Citadela Circle, and Citadela AI. Three businesses, one standard, and no one between you and the person doing the work.
I have been building businesses since I graduated in 2008, at the height of the financial crisis. When the jobs aren't there, you make your own. It started with music: an independent record label and mastering studio that earned airtime on BBC Radio 1 and worked with artists around the world. A digital marketing agency for France's tourism sector followed, and then France Motorhome Sales in 2021. Different industries, same lesson: reliability and consistency build trust, and with trust you can achieve great things.
What that looks like in practice is unglamorous. Buying a vehicle in France for someone who has never set foot in the country, and handling the company formation, the registration, the insurance and the storage that go with it. Meeting every new Circle member by video call before they join. Building private software for people whose lives run across several countries. Different work, the same job: take something complicated off someone's plate and return it finished.
I stay hands-on with all of it. That is not scalable in the traditional sense, and that is the point. Integrity, passion, and quality over quantity. Always.
A family of businesses I actually run
Independent ventures, each built from the ground up, and each one feeding the next.

France Motorhome Sales
France is one of the best places in the world to buy a motorhome, if you can get past the address rules, the registration paperwork and the language. I handle all of it, in English, so non-residents can buy in their own name.
- French address setup, sourcing & registration
- Insurance, storage, import and resale
- 60+ live vehicles · 5/5 from 54 reviews

Citadela Circle
The travel forums are overrun with bots and AI-spun noise. Citadela Circle is the opposite: a small, invite-only community where every member is a real person I've personally vetted and welcomed by video call.
- Curated member feed & private messaging
- Vetted professional directory & concierge
- ~70 members · now open

Citadela AI
Quiet, private software built around one life. Tools that learn how you like things done and keep what they know to themselves, for families, collectors and family offices whose lives run across several homes and countries. I do the work myself.
- Everything in step, wherever you are
- What matters to you, quietly looked after
- Built around you, not the average user
Fifty-four five star reviews, and counting
Every one of them from someone who trusted me with a large sum of money, from another country, in another language.
It's simply a different level of service
I came across John after many months of searching online and reading articles and blogs about buying a motorhome in Europe. As non-residents, we quickly realized that, legally, we cannot register a vehicle in our own name. We explored different solutions in Germany and the Netherlands, but we didn't feel comfortable with arrangements involving third-party ownership. Then, in August 2025, I found John's website. It provided extensive and clear information about the legal process of purchasing a motorhome in France, as well as guidance on maintenance, traveling, storage, and everything related to the topic. I contacted John, and he responded quickly. From the very first interaction, it was clear that he is a true professional. This is clearly his expertise, and it shows more and more with every conversation and email exchange. He is always polite, always patient, always thorough, and he gives you a real sense of confidence. We decided to move forward with the purchase process with his help, and it's fair to say that there wasn't a single step he didn't personally manage. From setting up a legal entity (company) in France, purchasing the vehicle from a major dealership, coordinating add-ons, handling documentation, liaising with the French accountant for signatures, and ensuring all receipts were properly issued - John was involved in everything. He is always available by email and also on WhatsApp for urgent matters. His service is consistently personal, professional, fast, and to the point. He is never impatient and never loses his calm. I have made many purchases in my life through various intermediaries, and John stands above them all. It's simply a different level of service. Anyone who wants peace of mind and a smooth, worry-free process should definitely go through John. Thank you very much, John - from both me and my wife, Ester - for making our dream come true. Without you, this would not have been possible. We have just returned from a two-week trip that included receiving the vehicle, equipping it, and getting to know it on the road, including staying in campsites. There wasn't a single day we didn't mention John positively - whether it was while watching the TV he worked so hard to arrange and explain to the French dealers exactly what we needed, or when using the rear storage box, which also took him a long time to coordinate and install. So once again, thank you, and we wish you great success.
This would not have been possible without John
As others have noted: This would not have been possible without John. Within 3 months (in an ever-decreasing timeframe) John had shared valuable insights, facilitated the setup of our French company, sourced suitable motorhomes, negotiated for the purchase of our new Benimar, arranged for insurance AND sourced local long-term parking. That's quite a list. Doing any of this without any French language skills on our part would have been impossible. And to add: John was often a source of calm and reassurance - really needed this on those occasions when forking out $140,000 NZD was an emotional challenge!
Without his in-depth knowledge we would have never managed to make it happen
We are now at the French Pyrenees in our new wonderful mobile home thanks to John. As we are not residents of Europe, we could have never managed without him. John took us through the process end to end and worked on our behalf with all the relevant parties, first to establish an address in France and then to open a company under our name. Once eligible to own a mobile home he helped us clarify our exact requirements and prioritize them. He guided us patiently as it wasn't easy. Once we knew what we wanted he proceeded to find us a match among several dealers. Down to a short list, John negotiated our specific requirement for additions and changes, as an example, our request to have refillable gas bottles. Without his in-depth knowledge of the process, the market, the dealers, the insurance and licensing process we would have never managed to make it happen.
We couldn't have done it without his help
John and his business, is the consummate professional entities, that we were very happy to find. We started over 2 years ago looking to find the best motorhome to suit our needs as we travelled throughout Europe. Through much searching and inquiring we were about to give up until we ran across his website. At first it sounded like it was too good to be true. So we inquired and we got a prompt response to our inquiry. All the questions we had were answered and all the details were explained. John doesn't sugar coat things, he tells you how it is, how it needs to be done, and how long it will take. He is like your boots on the ground and he is a true professional. He is well worth the fees he charges and we feel ever so lucky to have contacted him to help us purchase our Motorhome legally in France. We couldn't have done it without his help. Hands down the best!
Without John our dream would still be just that
After viewing the Tour de France on Australian TV for many years we felt the yearning to one day follow a few stages. The allure of the magnificent countryside, the images of historic buildings and chateaus along the race stages beckoned us to one day buy a motorhome and tour France along with other motorhomes that lined the course. We quickly found the one big stumbling block, as non French residents, we are not allowed to purchase a motor vehicle. After much internet research we discovered a solution with the guidance from John, director of France Motorhome Sales. By forming a company société civile. Without John our dream would still be just that. He is an absolute professional with full and in depth knowledge of what paths to take to make our dream come true. His dedication to service is second to none. Epitomised by the invaluable help in unfolding the mess caused by our initial purchase of a motorhome that went horribly wrong when the vendor pulled out of the contract after we had parted with our money to the intermediary. Needless to say, buy from a dealer not through any other method. We are now in France living the dream after further help from John in securing our mobile home away from home. Our motorhome is fully insured, registered and taxed. We cannot recommend John highly enough. Our advice to all those thinking and dreaming is take the plunge and just do it, no matter where you are from in the world. With John it is easy.
His professionalism during the process was priceless
We are a South African couple who bought a Rollerteam motorhome in France from a New Zealand owner. Navigating such a sale in a different country with all parties continents apart was a daunting thought! John Mottram assisted us all the way, his english/french fluency was essential and his professionalism during the process was priceless. We could not have done it without him. The process was a tedious one but John remained patient-answering our millions of questions patiently and replying and assisting promptly throughout.
